Cards for Troops Deadline Extended to Nov 15

Every year Scrapbook Royalty launches a campaign to collect handmade greeting cards for our military serving overseas called "Cards for Troops".

Here's how it works:

  • You send Scrapbook Royalty blank handmade cards
  • Scrapbook Royalty sends them to the troops serving overseas (usually in combat zones)
  • The troops fill out the cards with a message for their loved ones and send them home in time for the holidays
Cards and paper are hard to come by in combat zones and these cards mean alot to these soldiers, airmen, marines, sailors, officers, and their families during the holidays.

Cards collected in 2007: 1500+ Cards

Cards collected in 2008: 2000+ Cards

Here's all the details for submitting your cards to our
Cards For Troops Campaign
this year:

Requirements:
  1. Cards must come with envelopes. Tip: buy the envelopes first and make the cards to fit inside.
  2. Cards should be shipped with the back of the card inside the envelope and the front of the card outside the envelope (half in, half out). This makes it easier for them to look at the cards, to choose which they like and helps keep the envelopes together with the macthing card. If you get creative and there is not a way to put the cards 1/2 in and 1/2 out, then please ship them in clear bags, or envelopes so they don't get separated. Tip: www.clearbags.com sells clear envelopes that are inexpensive and a great way to send us your cards. If you buy from them and enter our group code CP1010, they will donate 5% of your purchases to Scrapbook Royalty.
  3. Cards should be rectangle and up to 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 will ship for regular postage. Tip: square envelopes cost extra to send.
  4. If you decorate the front with 3d embellishments or chunky glitter, it helps to include a blank piece of paper to place on the front of the cards to protect it when shipping.
Deadline for Scrapbook Royalty to RECEIVE your Christmas cards:

Sunday, NOVEMBER 15, 2009

Please send the cards in a box or large envelope to:

Scrapbook Royalty
Cards for Troops
PO Box 910665
San Diego, CA 92121

Do you make cards with other themes? Send them on over! We'll be collecting cards on any theme all year long--think Birthday, Love, Father, Mother, Family, Easter, 4th of July, Grandparents' Day... and sending them to the troops as each holiday approaches. Send your cards anytime, following the guidelines above.

Five Fridays

Just five things to share.

1. Jamie Harper recently featured my family book on her blog: http://jamieharper.typepad.com/jamieharper/2009/06/look-at-what-i-found-in-the-gallery.html

2. This week I was a guest blogger for FaveCrafts.com!! If you have not yet figured out what to do for Father's Day, here are some ideas: http://www.favecraftsblog.com/fathers-day-ideas-from-scrapbook-royalty/ .There are TONS of wonderful ideas on there so you will want to check them out, for any holiday, any theme, any craft!

3. Father's Day Treat Can. I made this project for FaveCrafts.com using stamps I got from Maria Getz, a Stampin' Up! Demonstrator. Check out the step by step tutorial here: Father's Day Treat Can.

4. Father's Day Mini Book Quotes.

I think the best part of the Father's Day mini book class I taught last week was the quotes. Since I taught the sold out class I have gotten several request for more kits but I don't have anymore time or product to crank out more kits before the big day. You can request a pdf of the quotes from me by emailing me at hydrangeahippo@yahoo.com

5. Don't miss out on the Manmade Handmade challenge over on the Bind It All Blog this month: binditall.blogspot.com. I'm hosting it- yippee!

Happy Creating ;)

A Little Birdie...

House ;) As one of the Design Team assignments for Pink Pineapple I altered a bird house. Each designer is doing a house according to their own style. The houses are really cool to look at -- Heather Barker's makes me crack up because it is so "her". It's black! I love it tooo much.

So about my little house:

The flowers are all Prima that I glued to the roof--then I glimmer misted them with Lime Twist Glimmer Mist and pressed them flat while they were wet. The paper is all from Anna Griffin. Along the bottom are cupcake liners I cut in half and flattened to look like grass.

Ribbon - May Arts
Paper - Anna Griffin
Bling, Buttons - Pink Pineapple
Butterfly - Cost Plus
Flowers - Prima
Mist - Tattered Angels
Borders - Bazzill

Hope you have a great day!

A Whole Lotta Stuff

I had a crazy crazy weekend! Here's a looooooooooong recap:

Scrappy Sale & Feeding Our Community
First the Divine Desert Divas had our second "Stamp and Scrap" Sale on Friday and Saturday. I went through my room TWICE pulling out all kinds of things I have not touched in a year or longer. My room is a little cleaner but my garage is a mess because I had to bring whatever didn't sell back to my house. I bought a bunch of stuff but sold even more. It was a HUGE success!! You are welcome to come shop or sell--just go to the Divine Desert Divas blog to sign up for our newsletter to find out when we're doing our next sale. Let's just say we made well over a couple thousand dollars. Yeah. I said THOUSAND!

We also collected canned food for Victor Valley Christian Church's Food Bank as part of the Fiskateers' and Scrapbook Royalty's "Feed Our Communities" Food Drive this past weekend. I helped collect 180 items of food over the last two weeks!! WOOHOO!! I just had Xaver and Katie count them. Check out this pile in my front room:

I am taking it all to the food bank later this week ;) I am sure they need it and this will help alot of hungry families. Thank you to everyone for your generosity.

Twenty Pages In A Day
On Sunday I headed over to Pink Pineapple Scrapbooks to teach the last installment of "Twenty Pages In One Day". We had a blast!! Always a fun day at Pink. One of the Divine Desert Divas came to the class to assist so that was fun as well--she would not let me take her photo! LOL

I am going to teach this class ONE LAST TIME at my house this summer. Keep an eye out for that announcement. I am thinking we'll do Carne Asada or Pulled Pork for lunch -- yum yum! I am also planning to have an extra kit with more pages available for purchase that day as well.

Due to popular demand, I will be teaching a second "Twenty Pages" class later this year with a whole new set of pages and products. This last time the focus was on Prima and next time it will be something totally different. I know the class fee is alot in these times but you really do get alot for your money-- 2 chipboard alphas, 1 felt alphas, rubons, a stamp and journal spot set plus all the goodies for all the pages. It cost me well over $300 just to buy all the stuff to make the SAMPLE! Yikes! I love this class because I can offer alot for the money and I get my own pages done too. So I hope you will consider joining me either at my house for the last installment of this class or in the fall for the new version---or both!

Scrap Room Under Construction

While I was gone Xaver put more lights in my scrap room! I loved my track lights but with summer coming it was getting mighty hot in my scrap room every afternoon. I cant' afford to run the AC all the time so we looked at fans last week while we were at Home Depot for something else. I got a 52" Hampton Bay fan with light for $34 on clearance!! WOOOHOO! Xaver put that in on Friday but my room was too dark for scrapping. So last night he put in 4 can lights. I LOVE it!

I'm Hosting!
I'm hosting a challenge over on the Bind It All Blog so please be sure to check it out. You can win some great stuff too and maybe get a gift made for dad in the process. Here's a little "dad" project I came up with for Xaver to use at work:

Dad’s Memo Board

My husband works in an office and he has surrounded himself with photos of our children, stuck to the wall with tape and thumbtacks. He really needs a nicer place to keep our kids! I created a "manly" memo board for him to hang at his desk with a photo of the kids.

He can also put photos or notes on the post it note pad or little corkboard section of the memo center. I also added some scrap o-wires across the bottom for him to hang keys and lanyards for his ID badges.

After binding several books I am usually left with odd piece of o-wires so this project is a perfect use for all those “scraps”. I used a nice sturdy piece of Zutter’s Clipboard Wood Covers to mount the project on—it will hold up to all the man-handling it will get hanging on my husband’s wall at work.

Supplies:

O-Wires, Clipboard Wood – Zutter

Paper – Close to My Heart

Cardstock – Bazzill

Cork – Unknown

Sticky Notes – Kirkland/Costco

Stick Pins – Staples

Waxy Twine – hydrangeahippo.etsy.com

Ink – Colorbox Chalk

Photo – Gypsy Isle Photography

Assembly:

1. Cut paper to the size of the clipboard wood and cover both sides. Ink all edges. Cut a piece of black to 1” smaller than the clipboard wood on all sides and adhere to the board.

2. Using the Bind It All, punch binding holes across the bottom of the board.

3. Adhere the cork board and sticky notepad to the cardstock.

4. Add a 3” square photo above the notepad.

5. Insert o-wires into the holes on the bottom of the board. Bend them closed slightly by hand.

6. Punch two holes in each of the upper corners of the board using the Bind It All. Use the holes printed on the top of the machine as a guide to only slide the board far enough in so that the machine will only cut two holes.

7. Tie waxy twine through each of the holes on the top of the board to form a hanger.

That's wayyyy more than enough for today. Catch you all later!
