Off to Crop! PLUS Stretching Your Patterned Paper

Tonight I am packing to go cropping tomorrow at Scrapbook Royalty's event to benefit the Cancer Coping Center held at Pink Pineapple Scrapbooks in Vista CA!! Woohoo! I'd better get packing...

BTW, Here's a quick tip:

I use this technique often in my classes--making a piece of patterned paper stretch across tow pages. I'd like to think I 'invented" this technique but I am sure someone else somewhere else has had the same idea. It works well for water pages, amusement park pages, and anything "fun".

Anyways, here's how it works, for all you 1am scrappers who only have one sheet of pp and no LSS is open for you to get more:

1. Cut the pp into two 6x12 strips.

2. Turn the strips so the patterns face each other and the back sides are facing out.

3. Mark the center of one side at 3" on the back.

4. Holding both pieces together, cut a curvy line through both pieces of paper at the same time, starting at the 3" mark and ending anywhere else on the other end of the paper (the other 6" side).

5. Separate the pieces. Match up the 3" sections in the middle of the two pages of your layout.

6. You can also arrange these several other ways, such as those pictured here.

Variation: Cut the paper with the paper patterns facing the same way (one on top of the other) and you will get a mirror effect on the page.

This only works if the pattern does not have a right side up. Stripes, plaid, dots, solids, all over prints work well. Papers that have flowers running up the side or words where there is really only one way to use the paper do not work so well with this technique. Hope this is useful!!

I'm dreaming of a "green" Christmas...

Wow--two posts in one day?! I just can't help myself--I am supposed to be having a "scrap-free" weekend and here I am, writing about scrapping...

I have been saving plastic clamshell style packaging from scrap items I bought for some time. Why? I thought I could use them for something, someday. Here are some of things I have recycled these empty embellies packaging into:

Here are a couple of ideas from my gallery:

QuicKutz 2x2 die packaging turned into a chocolate gift(use on gift bags, put on a tree for guests to grab as they come in the door at a party, pass out at the office instead of xmas cards...):

I used Ghiradelli chocolate squares (60 in bag from Costco for $10). You can also fold up money to put inside, make mini books inside (square is about 2.25". Lots of fun! PJ and I sold a bunch of these in our class this week as add-ons and I also threw a few in my yard sale stuff at Scrapping Lounge.

QuicKutz 4x4 die packaging turned into gift card holders:

I actually made the above into kits so the tulle on the front is holding the sample to the kits that are stacked behind it. I sold them as an add-on at a class I had last week.

Prima Bottles stuffed with Reese's mini PB cups, Hershey's kisses, and Hershey's Nuggets choclates:

Some packages I have found that work really well for this kind of project:
  • Heidi Swapp Ghost, Stamp, and ghost item packaging
  • Basic Grey Magnets packaging
  • Any QuicKutz individual die packaging
  • Heidi Grace decorative pins packaging
  • Queen & Co compacts with plastic flowers
  • Prima bottles (fill with candies)
  • American Crafts Treehouse flowers tins--wrap in paper and fill with candies
  • And any other packaging that snaps closed and has a space to put items in
Have a "green" Christmas!

Halloween Pics--Finally

As promised, here are some of our Halloween pics. Katie was a scarecrow. She had hay in her hair and all over the place! She also had a straw hat that we attached a crow to the top of. She only wore it down the block and then it came off--to uncomfortable! LOL

Matt's "new" costume--HOLY COW!

Pumpkin Carving before we went Trick or Treating:

Hope you all had a great Halloween too! Now to get to scrappin' all these pics!

If I Won the Lottery...

That's the premise of my circle journal!! I just dropped it off in the mail today. I did not get to finish my pages (need pics and a lottery ticket!) but it is on its way to another Blinging Babe!!

Our Critique Group, the Blinging Babes, is embarking on a circle journal that will take 8 months to complete! I think this is going to be really fun as we all get to know each other better over the next year.

Here is a sneak peek at my journal:

I actually cut the sugarcoated title on my Silhouette, no problem!! And this is the first time I have cut an outline for a word too. I chose crazy pink, lime, and black as the colors and even put some fake "Life" game money on the front. I just had fun! Can't wait to start this great cirlce-y journey.

Add It On and On and On and On....

PJ and I just finished up creating a whirlwind of add-on frenzy! Our "Birthday Calendar" class is on Wednesday November 7th from 6-9pm and we figured we'd create some sensational add-ons to complement our class.

We're creating some gorgeous home decor items which you can custom order from us or take home thatnight--these range from items for kids rooms to the family room to the baby's room and more!

We're also creating gift ensembles which include several small papercrafted gifts that can be given to co-workers, teachers, or yourself. These works great as stocking stuffers during the holidays or save them to give as gifts in the new year!

AND we'll have an extra special project (pictured above) that complements the class project. Get your shoppin' and scrappin' done early this year!!

I hope to see you on Wednesday!! PJ and I are sure you'll have a blast in our first ever class together.

P.S. Check your email inbox for a special coupon from us for a free gift during our class--you must bring in the coupon to claim the gift!

Whew--what a weekend!

I just got home from Desert Scrappers Retreats! I'm exhausted--but it is that good kind of tired you feel when you have accomplished something or had a great time. Well, BOTH happened for me!

I met some super awesome ladies: Crystal, Marie (x2), Penny, and more! It was a blast! I taught three classes--they were small so we got to sit and chit chat during the classes--that always makes for a fun time.

Jessica Gurthie (of Kits2Remember) and Crystal Deckard (of Little Crop Shop) were also there teaching classes so there were a good variety of projects for the croppers to choose from. I got some great deals from them on fun products too!

And Laura of Desert Scrappers always raffles off a gift basket at her retreats--she gives the funds raised to her chairty of choice, the Cancer Coping Center! She works with Scrapbook Royalty to select worthy charities to help out--thanks so much for your generosity, Laura!

Laura had all kinds of giveaways and fun games planned too. I managed to get an entire rubbermaid tub of stuff organized too--so I am pretty pleased!

I already signed up to go to they January 11-13, 2008 retreat and their May 31-June 1, 2008 retreat. If you sign up now, you get the 2007 prices. In 2008 the price will be going up so reserve your spots now! Please tell Laura I referred you--I get credits for that. And you can too when you refer a friend.

You'll have fun, you'll get to take some great classes, and it is a great value! I hope to see you next time!
