It's Bonus Time!!

LOL...I'm cracking up. I sound like a Macy's commercial about "Clinique Bonus Time"! LOL All this month I will include a BONUS project with each of my classes. Check out the different bonuses offered at each class -- you won't wanna miss this!

For the first one, I am giving a "bag" (just like Clinique usually does!) but it isn't filled with make up. Included in the Birthday Party Hat Book Class I am teaching at The Scrappin' Table you will receive a cute kraft gift bag. Now get this, I will have a goodie bar set up for you to decorate the bag with to match the book! We'll have cut out circles, fun little doodads, and cute ribbons and trims to dress up and customize the bag. The book also fits in the bag in case you want to give it as a gift too.

In the So Happy Together class at Scrapper's Cafe I am also working on a bonus for the class too! And in the Sports License Plate Book Class we will be making a cool luggage tag to go on the book or on your athlete's gym bag!

Make sure you sign up for these classes!! The price of the class is the same - you'll just be getting more goodies!! All of the info for each class and the contact info for each store location are all listed on the left under "Upcoming Classes".

I'll be posting sneak peeks tomorrow. See you soon!

Simple Five Fridays #2 - Five Ingredient Cards

I have been working on an altered project in my scrap room and now I have a bunch of leftover scraps of black, white, & turquoise papers. What am I going to do with all these scraps?!?!

This is like the worst problem plaguing scrappers, next to staying organized. It's like a bad word so I have to spell it out instead of saying it...

S-C-R-A-P-S

We all have them. I know you do. Don't try to deny it! And if you're like me, you even try to hang on to the tiniest of ribbon scraps too. No problem--we'll be using both to make these cards.

Also, I recently met Tammy I and if you don't know her, she is like the greenest scrapper ever! I was sorting my chip alphas last night and I had all these Heidi Swapp ones the glue came off of so I was popping them out of the package to put in my drawers. This morning I saw the pile of the "negatives" the packaging, sitting on top of the desk and I had a Tammy I moment. "I could USE those on some cards!!!" So I pulled them out with my scraps to see what would happen!

Okay, well, I can't make just "a" card...how about five cards? With 5 basic items. That way it is easy to put stuff away.

Supplies:
Card Bases (you can make your own with cardstock or use pre folded cards like I do)
Scraps of paper
Some leftover chipboard from a chipboard letter package
Tools: Bind It All Machine & Butterfly Punch
Scraps of Ribbon

I punched butterflies from the smallest scraps. Alot of the paper was double sided so I could either side too.

Here I used a piece of that chipboard alpha packaging and the filled in the letter "U" with stickles to make the "Thank U" sentiment. I also tied ribbon scraps through the letters on the left side. Oh, and I did bring out a stamp and stamp the card too.

This one is super simple. I just let the paper decide how the card was going to go. Another punched butterfly in the center of a circle and then a scallop (okay, I admit I had to get a couple more punches out).

I cut up the leftover chipboard alphabet package and used a strip of it on the bottom of this card. It doesn't say anything so I just added a tag that says "Say What?. I think it is funny but Xaver didn't get it...hmmm. I also used strips of paper I had in my scrap pile--easy peasy.

This week I also used a fun little technique with the Zutter Bind It All on some of the cards. I created two side by side rows of holes through which ribbon could be tied, threaded, or just do something fun with the holes. Here are two cards I did with this technique:

On this one I threaded ribbon through the holes. I didn't even have to use glue--the ribbon was wider than the slot so it just stayed stationary once it was threaded in.

Here I tied little bits of ribbon through each pair of holes to make a vertical border. Then I added a rub-on sentiment to the left of the ribbon row. On this card I also used the negative space from a scrap I punched butterflies out of for the other cards.

Here's the step-by-step to try this technique yourself:

1. Fold about an inch wide strip of the paper over.

2. Insert the folded edge into the Bind It All Machine and punch.

3. Remove the paper and unfold the folded edge.

4. Now you're ready to weave ribbon through, tie strips of ribbon through the slots--just whatever!

Hope you're inspired and ready for the weekend! If you create any cards or layouts using these techniques please share your creations here by posting a link in the comments. Happy Scrapping!

Everything Starts Somewhere...

It all started when I was admiring a few vintage banners I saw online, caught a glimpse of one Candace Carpenter made, was inspired by all the cool stuff hanging from the ceiling of Sweetpeas & Snapshots when I visited there last summer... and next thing you know, I tried making a banner myself.

The first one I made, ever, was one commissioned by Scrapbook Royalty for their events and booths at Scrapbook Expo. In the Scrapbook Royalty way it had to be purple, shabby chic, and over-the-top fabulous. I had some chandelier crystals I had collected as well as some crystals from a shower curtain I was no longer using and those became little pendants hanging from each pennant. I made each "letter" a little different and had fun with each one, adding special "little somethings" I had in my stash of goodies.. Here we all are with Scrapbook Diva under the banner in San Diego:

Then I was doing a banner for a make n take for Scrapbook Royalty's March event, a few for National Scrapbook Day, as a make n take for a giant group of croppers in Orange, CA...

...and finally one for The Scrappin' Table's store display:

In October I'll be unveiling a deliciously spooky banner as a class too!! I'm still working on the sample but I'll just share that there are wide satin ribbons, spooky details, and lots of tulle & glitter!

I really do enjoy making these and have a blast coming up with new ways to make them shine in my own way. After many requests, I am finally offering custom banners handmade by me. You can purchase them through my etsy shop or directly from me. I am currently working on a banner for Baby Nanette to match a uniquely bohemian motif with pears, apples, and birds - whatever you need, the sky is the limit! To obtain a quote for a custom banner for your next party, home decor project, or just because, please contact me via email (on the left) or leave a comment here and I will email you back. Thanks for looking!

Today

I have been busy-busy unpacking boxes and trying to make my house livable finally! I found a box of these really cool wrought iron candle holders I had been collecting for about 10 years. I thought they were gone forever, like maybe I had donated them to Goodwill or something by mistake. But lo and behold, I found the box they have been in for the last 1.5 years.

We had this odd cutout section in the wall between the dining room and the family room--it is very deep, at least 24" deep, and wide and high. A cool architectural feature until you start contemplating what to put in it. And it needs something in it.

The plan is to somehow arrange the candlesticks in the area. They are all kinds of diff heights. I am sure I don't want candles on them though--maybe something kind of cool thing on them but I don;t know what. I definitely don't want candles though--too much like a weird gothic altar or something with that much wax going on.

So then I got a wild hair and have started rearranging my scrap room once again! I am applying paper to the fronts of my mismatched Ikea 9 Drawer Boxes to match my room. I ma using black white and turquoise-y blue...hmmm, now that I think about it, it is kind of like It's About Time's new store motif but hey, its a great color scheme so why not?! I am using papers from Heidi Swapp, Doodlebug, and Luxe to cover each drawer--it is looking pretty cool right now! I'll post pics when I am all done.

Here's a sneak peek at a class I'll be doing two different versions of at two different stores:

"Back to School" Mini Book

"School Days" Mini Book

Collective Journey

And a layout I did using Pink Paislee's Office Lingo paper line. It works so great for boy stuff--just choose the papers without any pink. I used the Zutter Bind-It-All to make the notebook paper-style munched up edges.

I am really considering using this layout as one of the ones I will teach at Desert Scrappers next month since I have a girl one using the same paper as well. We shall see!!!

What A Day, What a Day, What a Mighty Mighty Good Day!!

Wow. I just love being a part of Scrapbook Royalty! Yeah, the charity part is really really cool. But it can also be really really fun too!

This morning Elena, Christi A, and I met with the store owners who participated in our Black, White, And Scrap All Over event. It was such a success! We raised some money for charity, lots of ladies got to learn about stores in their area, and we gave out great tote hooks, the stores gave out prizes...it was just great all the way around. So you know what? We are doing it again!!! It's still in the works but we started the planning today and I am so excited.

Then we all went over to check out the new digs for It's About Time--it is very chic chic and posh. Lots of vintage displays, fun stuff to look at, and of course great product! Here are some pics of the store:

I made a little stop at Now & Then to pick up the goodie basket I won during the Black, White, And Scrap All Over event--it has an album in it, rub-ons, all kinds of great goodies! So fun!

From there we went to lunch at On The Border. They have a great Chicken Tortilla soup I always get with avocado on top. Yummy! Matt was a total crazy "porkchop" (as Elena calls him) and was out of control but hey, he is a boy, what can I do?!

We all trekked up to Corona after lunch and met with the previous owner of Lil Davis who donated some awesome awesome product for SBR to use for auctions and to help raise money during our events for charity--sooo awesome!!

I finally made it home after another hour of driving. It was soooo hot today too! Little Matt had his ghetto fan in the back seat (it plugs in my cig lighter) to help keep him cool but it was pretty roasty toasty out there today.

And here is another cool thing: Scrapbook Royalty is going to help me collect bookmarks and canned foods for the two activities my Girl Scouts are doing this fall!! I just posted about the bookmarks on their blog here. And the address to send them to is there too. Thanks to everyone who has pledged to help out and a special thanks to tammy i for donating a TON of cans to us!!

All right, now off to scrapping!

On The Go...

I havent posted, I know, so not usual, but it is because I am just busy busy this week! Yesterday Katie started school again so that was a whole new adjustment. I started working out on the Wii again for like an hour a day. Today I have a meeting for Scrapbook Royalty and then I am going to check out the new It's About Time store, stop in at Now & Then, Scrapper's Cafe and the Scrapping Lounge...and I don't even remember what i am doing tonight...LOL So I'll hopefully post a scrappy thing again here tonight...just letting ya know....
