Five Fridays #13 – Scrapping with Stamps x 5

You don't have to be a "stamper" to use stamps and they aren't just for cards. Or just for ink for that matter! Here are five things you can do with stamps.

1. Stamp with Paint. I stamped this polka dot background on this teal paper using a rubberstamp and some white acrylic paint. Simply paint the stamp and then stamp the image. if you dip the stamp in paint you'll get blobs after you stamp so I brush the paint onto the stamp to get a smoother image.

2. Stamp with Ink – Just stamp the image direct onto your project. This can be the title, or whatever.I stamped the date stamp over on the right of this page directly onto the page.

I stamped a background on this card in brown with a large background stamp:

I stamped my title on this page and then drew a dashed line between the words to connect them:

3. Stamp with an object, like a plastic cup, coin, or other item.

Here I painted the bottom and top rims of two different sizes of cups and then used those to stamp on this page:

I did the same thing on this page as well to create the journal and title spots:

4. Make your own patterned paper. That is kind of what I did above on the banner. Here is another example where I stamped all over chipboard letters to make them patterned:

Here I stamped from the edge of the page to create a partial pattern on the backgrounds of these pages:

5. Stamp with versamark and go over it with chalk. This creates a soft look on the page.

I stamped small flourishes on this plain green cardstock with versamark and then chalked them with irridescent chalks to match the patterned paper I used:

Happy creating this weekend!

Create.

I recently completed another custom banner order from my etsy shop. This one was for Angelica Grace Designs.

She requested the colors pale pink, turquoise, robin's egg blue, and aqua and sent me a photo of Heather Baliey's studio as inspiration. It all just worked together! I went with a shabby chic kind of feel to this one, with alot of paint and crackle. I am really, really pleased with the result. Each pennant is 6" wide and 9" tall. I think this is my best banner yet. After reading her story on her website, I was very inspired and had a great time putting together this piece for her studio. Hope she likes it!! It's off in the mail so I'll know in a few days...

Here are some snapshots to enjoy:

What's with the Hippo?

I finally got around to changing my blog header and the banner for my etsy shop. A few months back I changed the title of my blog to "Hydrangea Hippo". It all started as a joke and then it just kind of stuck.

Earlier this year I attended the "Fantasyland Crop for Kids" put on by Scrapbook Royalty. A few of us at the crop decided to head over to the Pink Pineapple in Vista, CA to do a little shopping. We got on the subject of scrapbooks stores.

"What would you name a store if you had one?"

Crazy Rachel had some name with "Periwinkle" in it. We joked about "Green Galoshes" and other funny color and noun combos.

Then there are the stores and companies that already exist...Pink Pineapple, of course, a scrapbook store here in California....Green Tangerine, a store in Northern California....Pink Paislee, a manufacturer ... Scarlet Lime, a kit club...Label Tulip, another kit club...well, you get the picture.

So being facetious, I said I'd name my store "Hydrangea Hippo". hehe. It had a ring to it I guess and what started out as a joke has now become my blog and etsy shop name. Who'd have thunk it? I don't even like hippos or purple!

I paper pieced the little hippo in my banner by making a couple of ovals and then two leaf shapes for the ears. The eyes are the smallest Kaiser Craft black rhinestones. The paper in the background is from Collage Press--love their papers! Here's the hippo hiding in my ribbon:

That's where she lives. So I *might* just take her with me places and take pictures of her doing different things. We'll see if I remember...

That's all for now...back to kitting...

What's The Difference?

Pink Bind-It-All......Blue Bind-It-All...

What's the big deal?!

Well, there are two things that I like the best about the new Pink Bind-It-All V2.0:
  • Larger Slot for Binding Materials
  • Can use the new Spacer Bar
Side by side, here they are:

Yes, that is my messy dinning room table. I am busy kitting for my classes so that is what all that mess is. But I gotta blog so no time to clean up! This is how I really work!

They are the same size and height, have the same features.

But check this out:

I am using really thick chipboard for my classes this time around. The Blue BIA only takes two sheets of this chipboard at a time and that is a really tight squeeze. The Pink BIA taks 3 sheets easily. I recently bound a project using Kaiser Craft's wood albums--the Pink BIA punched right through the wood pages!! They wouldn't even fit in the slot on the Blue BIA.

See those clips on the side of the Pink BIA? Those are for the Spacer Bar. Use it to make the holes in your project closer to the edge of the paper. I'll show you an example of that some time later.

And one last thing. It's not called the "Pink Bind-It-All" though that is a cute name. It's the Bind-It-All V2.0! So hopefully this helps you to know the difference between the two--it's more than just pink!

Check out more projects using the Bind-It-All on the Zutter Zisters website.

Our Event-urous Weekend!

Just because I don't think I am busy enough I go and cram more into my one weekend "off" this month. There is just so much fun stuff to do and check out. As I meet more new people, I find out about more new events and fun things to go see and do...well, it is just exponential!

Retreat Visits

The last two weekends I had the pleasure of traveling to two retreats to conduct raffle, teach make n takes, and pass out "Fairy Fly Bys" for Scrapbook Royalty! I need to go on one of these retreats to get some scrapping and realxing in for myself. Someday soon I hope!

On Friday November 7, 2008 I went to Crops2Remember, run by my friend and fellow Zutter Zister Nan Paturzo, in Lake Forest, CA. Katie helped me pass out "Fairy Fly-Bys" and teach a little mini book make n take. We also raffled off two raffle baskets to raise $298 for Friends of Scott, a nonprofit that helps to improve the lives of children suffering from Cancer. There were just under 20 ladies in attendance but they were so very generous!! Thank you so much for your support and also a big thanks to Nan and Naomi for having us come to their event. Here are some pics of me with the raffl winners:

On Friday November 14, 2008 Katie and I went to Desert Scrappers Retreats. For the last year and a half I have taught every Saturday at this retreast but I didn't want to miss the FiskFriendzy on Saturday in Long Beach so I came out to Desert Scrappers on Friday night instead. Katie once again passed out "Fairy Fly-Bys" and stencils for our Innovations Contest. I sold Scrapbook Royalty tote hooks and chatted with ladies about everything Scrapbook Royalty does. I also saw Nan there! LOL She is everywhere... There were 70 croppers in attendance and we raised $261 for Friends of Scott.

Friends of Scott

Scrapbook Royalty is helping Friends of Scott to collect toys for their annual prom they put on for the kids and their families. Our goal is to collect 150 toys. The money raised at these two retreats will be used to help purchase toys. There is still time to purchase toys!! Just go to GoodShop. Choose TOYSRUS from the drop down list and then choose "wish list". Enter the name "Scott Delgadillo" and start shopping., The shipping address is listed in the registry as well.

Why do I ask that you go to GoodShop first? Well, everytime you shop an online retailer by going through GoodShop, that retailer donates a percentage to the charity of your choice, So be sure to always enter Scrapbook Royalty and to do your online shopping through GoodShop. Also, please be sure to use GoodSearch for all of your online search engine needs as we earn a penny for every search you do.

Wrapping Up Christmas

I finally signed up for Collective Journey's "Let's Wrap Up Christmas" event! They've been doing it for 19 years and I have heard great things about it . For $15 we got 4 make n take projects, yummy goodies to munch on (mmmm the meatballs were AWESOME!!), gift ideas galore, and 15% off everything in the store. I Picked up some stocking stuffers for my mom and Xaver and a cute little Christmas Countdown magnet for the fridge.

I was honored to have some of my projects selected as gift ideas they showed during all six sessions of the class over the weekend. I also got to talk about my upcoming classes there in December: "Good Eats" recipe book and "Be Jolly" Garland and Mini Book. And I met the wonderful owner of Cookbookin' line of cooking themed papers and embellishments.

Here are some of the great displays they had up in the store:

iLove the way the store is decorated--wow!

I'm using this idea for sure!!

Felt Club

I recently joined the High Desert Street Team, a group on Etsy.com of artists in the High Desert area of Southern California (Hesperia, Barstow, Apple Valley, Phelan, Victorville, etc...). One of the ladies on there shared about an event at the Shrine Auditorium called "Felt Club".

Sounded interesting and since Xaver is dabbling in creating his own little felt creatures for his Etsy shop we decided to check it out. Well, were we surprised to find out DJ Lance Rock and some of the other guests from Matt's favorite show, "Yo Gabba Gabba", were there!! DJ Lance was DJing the event.

We even got a photo with one of the most silly guests I have ever seen on the show:

Miss Leslie Hall--wow. I just gotta laugh. You can find out more about her here.

We only stayed there for about an hour and couldn't go upstairs becuase there was no elevator and you all know I have knee issues. Hmmm....ADA, Hello?! But we got some great inspiration and photos anyways. And some fun little shirts for Matthew, a business card holder for me, and pin for Katie, and a gift for my friend Elena. Here are the pics:

Our first purchase was at mogogoods:

Need some stickers? LOL

Matt Snacking!

Geez, Kate is so "tween" lately. Uggh!!!

Here's a view of the entire room:

These little felt sumo dudes were cute too:

Lots of needlefelting by NikNaks:

Isn't that mushroom pin cute? But it was $36 so I had to pass... paper is so much cheaper! LOL But I know it wouldn't last as long and it sure isn't fuzzy and cute...

Loved all the tees I saw there!

What a great inspiration filled weekend!!! And I even got some of my Christmas shopping done. Woohoo!
